My Story
Let me briefly tell you how I got started in a backyard nursery, growing and selling plants.
I am writing this on May 27, 2008 from the North West corner of Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
I found Mike McGroarty's web site while searching for some plant or other, can't remember what. Anyway, it was early in 2007. I signed up for his newsletter.
I got several letters and one day, out of the blue, I actually thought about what I was reading. It hit me like a bomb! I could do this!
I printed out a ton of paper from his web site and read and read and read and got more and more and more excited!
Then, I took all that paper and shared it with my neighbor, Patty, and she could hardly wait for me to stop talking long enough for her to wave her hands at me and tell me she wanted IN, too!
We went from there like gang-busters and are moving forward as the way opens to us.
I look back to July 8 of 2007 when I bought into Mike's Back Yard Nursery program and have a hard time realizing that it is not even a year yet!
Having someone to talk to and work with is a real boost for me. Without Patty, I'd still be mucking around, trying to figure out what to do next. But we are able to discuss things every day and that helps. It is so much easier than looking at yourself all day and wondering where/when you will find the next sale.
I didn't have a dime to start a new business. I'd been in my own business for 22 years, running an educational tutoring service. It went belly up because of the ecomomy and I'm left with almost $30,000 in debt and my only source of income is less than $500 in SS. The SS check pays my home mortgage where one of my daughters and I live in 2 mobile homes.
I'm going to be 70 in August.
You see how highly motivated I was/am!
I love the out-of-doors and have always been a gardener.
Someone stole my log splitter and another vandal destroyed the custom cover on my inground (unused) pool. I turned in an insurance claim and used the money I got from that claim to start up this business.
It's paid me back already. We are selling plants and shipping them by mail all over the USA.
And is paying me every month so I can pay down on those debts I was stuck with when my Reading Clinic closed.
God is good and we are moving along.
Hang in there. You can do it, too!
