Timer for the misting system
Timer in a box
January 2008
The following is a report I wrote about our timer box.
Andy sells a good timer kit that is ready to install. He inquired as to the weather-proof capacity of our little box.
Andy,
You asked me earlier about the weather-ability of the little Walmart plastic tub we used to shelter our timers from the elements.
I am going to say that it is an unqualified success!
We have had temperatures near zero and of course, last summer when we put it up the temps were above 100.
Temps have swung 50-70 degrees in 24 hours.
We have had rain, sleet, snow, high winds, and extreme temperature shifts and there is NO condensation present inside the container.
The cover on the tub is not 100% sealed, so any sun shining on the box will show up as condensation if there is any moisture creeping in.
Just thought I'd let you know, so you can give an unqualified endorsement for a plastic enclosure. I'd just be sure they understood that it should have good clamp-down handles. Handles that only snap into place may not withstand the wind.
Also, I have pictures of our installation on our web site and you are welcome to direct folk there is they are interested. We will be happy to take more detailed photos and/or answer any questions, for you or your customers, as needed.
